Integrate Alteryx and Snowflake

Integrate Alteryx and Snowflake

Every company has large amounts of data that they need to store and analyze, but there can be many challenges in working with this data. Often the data is coming from different sources, is disorganized, and cannot be used immediately for analysis. Additionally, storing data requires significant system and resource management.

The good news – Alteryx and Snowflake can alleviate some of these pains by streamlining data preparation and optimizing database performance.

Let’s discuss then show you how!

 Snowflake

Snowflake is a cloud-based data warehouse that allows for efficient scaling and maintenance of databases. As queries are executed within Snowflake, the warehouse size can be scaled to account for different processing needs. There are multiple sizes that linearly improve the speed at which a query is executed.

The ability to adjust the warehouse size on an ad hoc basis allows users to process data quickly and systematically.  Once databases are configured, Snowflake handles most of the database management such as query caching and system updates.

In short, Snowflake offers the standard data warehousing functionality in addition to optimizing storage and performance.

Connecting Alteryx to Snowflake

With Alteryx, users can easily read and write data to Snowflake databases. The simplest  way to connect to Snowflake data is using the input and output tools. The only prerequisite is to set up and ODBC connection to a specific Snowflake web server. When the ODBC is configured and Snowflake credentials are provided users can read, write, create, and delete data tables. Users can also use the “In-Database” tools to connect to a database and directly manipulate the data, without having to pull and push data from Snowflake.

The Snowflake/Alteryx integration gives users more visibility and access to their dataThe Alteryx platform eliminates the need for understanding SQL, so any user can process and analyze their data.  Data can be pulled from many different sources within Alteryx, then it can be blended and transformed before updating a databasewhich provides more consistency for repetitive data uploadsAlteryx can also be used to analyze data or send data to other sources, such as BI tools, for additional analysis, dashboarding, or data visualization.
